Welcome to FOCUS – Framework of Community Uplifting & Strengthening!
Founded in 2023 by a passionate group of socially committed graduates, FOCUS is a non-governmental organization dedicated to addressing critical social and environmental challenges within the Malayagam community of Sri Lanka. By collaborating with government bodies and like-minded organizations, we aim to foster sustainable change starting at the grassroots level. Currently focused in the Nuwara Eliya district, FOCUS envisions expanding its reach to other districts and amplifying its impact through partnerships and innovative programs.
Framework of Community Uplifting & Strengthening (FOCUS), was established in 2023 by a group of passionate and socially engaged graduates. This NGO (non-governmental organization) is dedicated to addressing critical social and environmental challenges within the Malayagam community of Sri Lanka by collaborating with the relevant government bodies and other organizations. FOCUS is built on the belief that sustainable changes begin at the grassroots level. Currently, our work is concentrated in the Nuwara Eliya district, with plans to expand into other districts and collaborate with various organizations and government bodies to broaden our impact.
To create a self-reliant, environmentally conscious, and thriving Malayagam community where everyone has equal access to opportunities and the capacity to lead meaningful lives.

We recognized a gap in fresh ideas, innovation, and sustainable practices among existing organizations for solving social issues. FOCUS was created in response to the need for comprehensive community development within the Malayagam community which faces challenges such as limited educational access, environmental degradation, increasing rate of school dropouts, unsafe labor migration and insufficient economic opportunities. Our goal is to bridge these gaps by providing targeted programs that promote education, climate action, and gender equality, empowering individuals to become agents of change within their communities.
The founders of FOCUS come from diverse backgrounds rooted in the plantation and agricultural sectors, with a united vision to uplift the Malaiyagam community. We understand the unique challenges faced by these communities. This understanding drives our commitment to fostering sustainable development, empowering youth, and promoting gender equality. We primarily started with self-fundings, with limited external support. We are dedicated to creating meaningful, long-lasting changes and solutions for the existing problems.
